|
|
I've been reading about this for a few days now, but until today it was still considered to be "rumor"...
Yo ho: Pirate makeover coming to Magic Kingdom in June
The new Pirates League will try to do for buccaneers what the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique has done for little princesses at Disney World.
The attraction, which will open at Magic Kingdom theme park June 29, will perform swashbuckling makeovers. Participants will receive pirate names before receiving a variety of accessories, including beards, eye patches, scarves, scars, earrings and gold teeth. These will be applied by a "veteran pirate" with sea-sailing tales.
After taking a sacred oath and an official portrait, guests will be part of Jack Sparrow's gang.
There will be three pirate packages.
+ First Mate Package ($49.95): bandana, choice of facial effects, sword and sheath, pirate coin necklace, 5x7 photo and a "personalized pirate oath."
+ Empress Package ($49.95): bandana, "shimmering" makeup, sword and sheath, pirate coin necklace, 5x7 photo and a "personalized pirate oath."
+ Captains Package ($124.95): choice of costume, facial effects, sword and sheath, pirate coin necklace, three 5x7 photos and the personalized oath.
The League will be located in the area between the entrance to the Pirates of the Caribbean attraction and the Pirates Merchandise shop. (Disney says this is currently backstage territory.)
But hang tight, mateys: Reservations cannot be made until May 11.

My only surprise is that it took so long to do this.
There was one item in the write-up that I did find unusual. It mentioned scarves. Most themepark/amusement parks don't like folks wearing things that float or flow behind them on ride attraction. I'm wondering if this is just bad copy, if they are actually going to allow this, or if by scarves they mean more of a ascot type scarf. |

I know a certain grandfather that would be happy to set his grandson up with a pirate package. Too bad it won't be open next week while we are visiting the Mouse. _________________ [ |

I think they are referring to the bandanas... those aren't long enough to be of an issue riding rides.... _________________ Up or Down North, South, East, or West An Adventurer's Life is Best! |

I think this is a great idea. It keeps the franschise alive and gives the boys something to do... (while girls can do this too, not many boys were doing the princess routine...) a bit on the pricy side though. $50 as the starting level. |

The Disney and More has a ton of really cool photos, showing the different make-up options... If I was a kid again, I would be a cursed pirate! Totally Cool! _________________ Up or Down North, South, East, or West An Adventurer's Life is Best! |

looks like a lot of fun for the folks involved, and wrapping it into a game that is played in adventure land was a good idea as well.
I wonder how long the "Game" lasts. I can see Mom and Dad ready to move on and having to stay to "finish the game".
Also be curious as to how this effects the crowds in adventure land.
And finally, I'd like to see how well this make-up holds up to a day in the park with the various water effect and normal kid wear and tear. Particularly with the cursed pirate having make-up on hands, I'd think that would rub off on everything... clothes, parents, other guests... |
