I replied a bunch...just didn't know they were all eventually going to show up! Only other movie I can think of that makes sense is Cars, but it's certainly not a lot older than A Bug's Life, so I doubt that's the answer. Might need a hint!

There are relatively few animals in this movie. Mainly donkeys.

Donkeys? That should be a great clue, but I'm missing it altogether. Was thinking Jungle Book (weren't the vultures a play on the Beatles?). Not too many donkeys in that case though.
