Great guess, and a connection I hadn't thought about, but no. It had to do with something Lilo believed Pudge had power over.

That's it! Pudge controlled the weather, per Lilo! Always wondered if this wasn't a kind of sad thing, as Lilo and Nani's parents were killed in a storm.
