|

Just a heads up...If you'd like to get your fill of the Disneyland Gallery, it closes permanently on July 31st due to rennovations that will make it an "Overnight Room" for the year of a million dreams, much like Cinderella Castle has in WDW.
As many of you know, the Gallery was once going to be the extended Apartment of Walt and Roy Disney. Do to growing families on both sides, the Firehouse apartment was not able to accommodate such large families. The apartment was built with plenty of rooms, for living space while at disneyland including a childrens bedroom (with appropriately sized closets all of which is storage space for Print on Demand), cigar and brandy room (now a manager's office), dining room sharing a kitchen with Club 33 (Large main room to the left of the balcony) etc.
The Atrium area was actually temperature controlled by the use of Air Conditioning ducts, that served double duties of keeping the air cool and the bugs out.
The original Shower fixtures are still in the back storage room. Also, the original refrigerator is still in operation for use by Cast MEmbers behind the Cast Registers. This entire area was to be used as a Wet Bar.
The Gallery opened in 1987 after it served as remote office space for INA (Insurance Co. of North America) who was a sponsor of Disneyland's Carefree Corner (Now the Kodak Photo Shop). _________________

I love the Disney Gallery!!! What a bummer it's closing. Even if I won the "overnight room" in the million dreams thing - I would still choose keeping the gallery rather than staying in a room for only one night. |

Although in some ways this is kind of cool, overall, it stinks! The Gallery is a great place and loosing that is just loosing another part of Disneyland.
A real shame. _________________ When you're curious, you find lots of interesting things to do.

I'm glad I was able to spend some time there a few weeks ago!! It was my first (and apparently last) chance to visit the Gallery, and I absolutely LOVED it!! Some of the artwork there was astounding. The Miniature Mainstreet... took my breath away!
I can only hope that they will at least relocate the shop somewhere else, and not do away with it completely. |

This bothers me a LOT! We have numerous special memories of the Gallery. I'm so glad we stopped in there when we were in DL in April. Even bought a print. _________________ *~deb~*

Not probably what you're looking for, but here's a few pics of the Disneyland Mainstreet replica; the first thing you see when you walk in. The picture below is an example.

The miniature street absolutely floored me!

yeah...I dont think I'll be getting around to owning all of those pieces...though I own City Hall (for semi-obvious reasons) and Allison just surprised me with the hub. _________________
