Considering all the old rumors, who here thinks Horizons will reopen? Everyone remembers the rumors, right? About the sink hole, the building caving in on itself, the leaks in the roof. All those. If they're true, then why was Horizons not reopened somewhere else? Who knows what happened to the sets, ride vehicles, and animatronics? Was it all destroyed, or was it moved into storage?

And who here knows why the heck they closed it? I mean for real closed it. Because I don't beleive the rumors. If the building had structural problems as bad as some say, then why was the ride opening and closing for about 3 years?

Either way, it seems like the company is starting to change. The wand is gone, old projects are being looked at again. Maybe we will see Horizons again. Anyone here who's watched the videos on youtube can see that even though it opened 24 years ago, it's still not dated.

Your just messing with jahosifatz aren't you, poking him with a stick, huh?

Honestly, I don't think Horizon's will ever be back.... First of all, there is no where to put it, unless you replace an existing pavillion... All of the pavillions are being used right now (WoL is being used for CM functions, special events, F&W Festival, and over-flow situations).... While sponsorships change, I think the only logical place would be M:S (since it would be weird to be in another pavillion other than it's original)... I don't think Disney is going to bail on this ride for a while, 1) initial costs were too much and 2) it is still very popular and a people eater...

Yeah they have corrected a few things, like the wand (which was supposed to be temp anyways) and the canvas panels, but I don't think your going to see whole sale changes.... The only other major rumor is the removal of the Leave a Legacy monuments, but nothing official has been said about those...

Yeah, more rumors about Imagination, but those have been around for YEARS... It's become one of those rumors where, you can't believe them until you see it/hear something official.... Besides, I have a side bet with tE about this one Wink

However, from some of the rumors and spy shots of the SSE referb, it sounds like the Imagineers are including some "tributes" to Horizons... Spy shots show LCD panels in the vehicles and rumors about a "choose your return method" system, just like Horizons....

So, do I think Horizon's will ever be back, probably not... but it's legacy can live on in other rides/attractions.....

Actually, there is space between The Land and The Living Seas. There's some small shacks of some kind there, which could be moved, and there's plenty of space for a new attraction...Google it, and see for yourself....They'd have to reroute Avenue of the Stars a bit, but Disney has done more drastic stuff in the past. That'd be cool!!!

I honestly don't see Horizon's coming back. And while I miss it, I wouldn't want it back the same. If it comes back, I'd expect it to be upgraded and done better.

But for the most part, it's still not dated. At least it doesn't look dated in the videos I've seen. I say they reopen it as it was, for like 2 years or whatever. Then everyone's happy (except the people who wanted it gone in the first place). Then after that 2 year time, or however long it could be, they could plus it all they want.

It's still SO futuristic though. I mean even though we're building casinos out in the desert, we're still not growing oranges. If you had the option of buying Florida oranges, or Nevada oranges, which would you pick? The International Space Station is still flopping along, not finished, and I bet it's WAY over budget. So, we're not gonna see communities there anytime soon. And I'm still weary of putting seaweed in my car. Seems like it's only an energy source for popeye. But, he's a Universal Studios character, so we won't mention him anymore here.

Bottom line about Horizons: I rode it on a rather busy day the year that they closed it and there was absolutely no line. I don't see them bringing back an attraction when it wasn't popular even when it was more current.

How was it when you rode it? Shaky, rough? Any "problems with the ride system" that you noticed?

See if a ride like that reopened in tomorrowland, it would be just as popular as haunted mansion. It's right there, so why not ride it while you're waiting for your fastpass time for space mountain?

As much as we would all love to see it Horizons is all but dead. Think of how many recent attractions have opened with a bunch of animatronics. Close to none I'd say. AA's are expensive and require a ton of maintainence, and quite frankly Disney is too cheap these days to invest in that. Horizons had something like 50+ AA's, that's a big cost to maintain.

Horizons was great for a slow ride where teens could neck. However nowadays most people are into fast and furious look at test track. WoM was really a sort of museum to transportation nothing really futuristic about it. But it was popular anytime I rode it. But I said it once and I'll say it again,( these imagineers have there heads up there butts they can't seem to get a good idea. Thats why we are here discussing it they don't listen to us the consumer which is funny, since we are the ones who use the parks. I still say they need a park that has nothing but thrill rides to compete one on one with IOA and SF and the like.) I still hate the fact they keep changing the classics adding to them fine but don't change they i.e.- Tiki Birds it was a great show before the screw up!!! Same with COP geees I grew up on Now Is The Time. Hey for that why not alternate the show offering both shows...........

Redbaron314 now steps off his soap box to ride the Pirates of the Carribean.

Hi folks. I've said it before and I'll say it again; when it comes to ANY kind of 'futuristic' attraction at ANY of the parks the one big problem is that of 'immediancy', that is; will it or won't it become dated too quickly. With Horizons the point of the attraction was that it was a view of what the future 'could' be if we all got our act together. As far as the company is concerned I think their real problem is they have to take their inspiration from what has already been introduced as far as future technology is concerned. But as for just giving the audience an experience that could be inspiring after they leave the ride they still have to think outside the box Rolling Eyes . If and when they deicde to rethink the Horizons concept in ANY way let's just hope they give their own collective imagination a good kick in it's extremities, (did I just say that?). Anyway, later, peace.

I do not think we will ever see Horizons back... But a few of the comments above brought a few things to mind...

That this was a great place for teens to neck. - I had heard Disney was looking to intentionally reduce places which encouraged other than "family" behavior.

AA are expensive so they try doing with out them - what a shame the creator of this technology would avoid it, rather than making it cost effective, I'm not sure I buy this. The live character initiative has to be causing changes in this technology and costing a pretty penny. Either was I sure hope this is not true...

Disney listen to their consumers... you mean return to being a service oriented company?

A thrill park only park to compete with the others. - - That assumes you want to compete with the others and want the same market demographics. Dasically the teen and young adults. Thrill rides are great, but they cause you to split the family up while children and seniors wait for the other... and for long periods of time. Disney's prime market was the family, and I personally would rather they spend time on rides that are less inclusive. No ride will fit all, but take a look at the classics... Jungle Cruise, Haunted Mansion, IASW, POTC. Yes add more thrill rides but not in a way which detracts from the "magic" moments by sitting around waiting for the roller-coaster to end.
