Interesting. I've never been much of a fan of Alice in wonderland, but have to admit this has perked my interest.

The characters definitely have a "Burtinesque" quality to them. (Says a lot about the quality of a director that his work is so uniquely identifiable.)

Also considering Lewis Caroll is reputed to have been on a serious drug-induced trip when he wrote the story..., these images do seem to imply to me some form of warped or adjusted interpretation of things.

Could be an interesting move, but I wonder what the Disney "purists" will say with a movie so different from the traditional one.

I say the more the merrier, but doubt there will be no distention.

At least this is valid re-interpretation rather than another thoughtless sequel. We don't need an "Alice 2 1/2".

Actually, according to this post over at AICN the movie is not really a retelling or reinterpretation of the original stories. Apparently, the movie will take place several years after Alice had her original adventures and gets drawn back in.

Sounds a lot like Return to Oz to me, hopefully it will have a better response.

OOOEEEYYY

Surprised

All right, I admit I have not seen much of Burton's work outside of Batman..but these pictures are just downright weird and scary. For adults, they are fine, but taking your daughter who "just loves Alice" and having her see some of these characters? I pass.

He took such pretty women and made them hideous. Also, if he is not going to tell Alice in Wonderland, then why create a new story with the same characters? He is talented enough to create everything new.

The first words that came to mind when I saw the pictures were "crazed drug tripping" and regardless of what Lewis Carroll was on when he wrote it, do we need to inflict this on children? It makes no difference what it is rated. If it has the Disney name and "Alice in Wonderland" in the title, parents will take the little ones...

Of course I never got the "Artsy" stuff but I hope the story is real strong because the weirdness of the characters will kill it if the story is not just as strong. These images would have washed out the original story to the point where no one would have followed it...

Wierd sells but there is weird and then there is "Coo Coo, Wow, and What the **** was that?"

As am I. I'm looking foward to the soundtrack with Danny Elfman making a reprise. Although I do love Sweeney Todd's soundtrack. Those songs get stuck in my head easily.

We saw it this weekend. I really liked it, but I have to admit, I was a tad confused but some if it since the author was on drugs at the time! YIKES! But it was awesome!
