Walt Disney World employees will be able to see an on-site physician or take care of other health care-related needs when an on-site health and wellness center opens in late-2008 or early-2009, the company announced Wednesday.
“This is a primary medical-care facility that combines physicians and a pharmacy, a lab, basic radiology, and other health and wellness resources,” Walt Disney World spokesperson Kim Prunty said. “Essentially, it’s a one-stop shop for primary care. “
Prunty said there are 40,000 benefits-eligible employees on Walt Disney World property, Local 6 News partner Florida Today.
“This is giving our ‘cast members’ another choice,” Prunty said. “They can still choose to see their primary-care physician they’ve been going to, or go to or use this facility instead.”
Prunty said the facility will be 15,000 square feet and will cost an estimated $6 million.
No health management organization has been chosen. Construction for the facility will begin after a selection has been made.
The facility will be located behind Epcot, Prunty said.
Interesting... I wonder if OP medical emergencies will be sent here or to their current destination?
EDIT: Ok, just found another article over at Orlando Sentinel, it gives a few more "technical" details click here for article _________________ Up or Down North, South, East, or West An Adventurer's Life is Best!
I think this is good for the employees and show Disney is thinking ahead of the pack. I'm aware of several companies looking at wellness centers like this.
They have shown in several studies preventing illness with wellness centers is cheaper and keeps the insurance costs down. Also having it allows emps to return to work faster after going to a wellness center office visit.
