Spaceship Earth at Disney's Epcot reopening Friday with new features

Epcot's iconic white sphere, Spaceship Earth, closed for nearly six months, will reopen to the public Friday with a new story line and digital enhancements.

The show's producer Bob Zalk says the new story is about innovations and how they inspire the next generation.

The ride features new show scenes, lighting effects and costumes with a new musical score narrated by Judi Dench. The ride's vehicles remain the same, but include new touch screens. There will also be an interactive component.

Disney officials expect to make minor changes before the ride's formal reopening in February.

A friend of mine had a sneak peek right before it opened. He said the improvements were great! I can't wait to see the changes when we're there in January for the marathon. But I wish they had done something to change the vehicles - they have to be the most uncomfortable ones in the parks. Yuck

Haven't had a drink since 12/2. Cleaning up for the marathon.

Rose and Crown, 1/13/08 8:30 PM if not before. Are you and the Mrs. visiting that day?

As for the heist...I had trouble driving a compact on those Irish roads. I sure wouldn't be any good in a truck and trailer. And Angus probably wouldn't do any better in his condition.

We will have to see, that is a weekday and it's difficult to get out to the parks during the week.... We will see...

Wow! I haven't actually seen a line for SE in at least 6 or 7 years. That's actually kind of cool.

It's werid to see the full queue open. I can't remember the last time I waited more than 3 mins to ride SSE. I saw the preview over Xmas and was mildly satisfied. Of course the nod to Steve Jobs, (or is it Wonz?) was a nice touch.

The last few trip to WDW that the ride was open we all but walk right up
and into a time vehicle. Very Happy

Waiting for SSE will be a new to me. Wink

I've seen lines on MANY occasions for SSE. Granted, a majority of the time it's a walk-up, but there have been lines that they needed the extra ropes for the queue.
