A few weeks ago, the new Maleficent dragon (nicknamed "Murphy the Dragon") had a major breakage during a performance. Since then, the dragon has been removed with no return date: http://ocresort.ocregister.com/2010/08/30/disneylands-troubled-dragon-breaks-down/54629/

The dragon has received a lot of press, as it was supposed to be a main feature of new nightly fireworks shows last year, but it was delayed for a long time because of technical and structural issues. I guess there have also been several reports of malfunctions since it was installed.

While the article above does include a photo, someone finally posted the actual performance and crash of the dragon (about the 1:10 mark): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iJoCtV08i7w

I hope they can fix these issues and get the dragon back out there... because if the rumors are true, this could be only Fantasmic! in the near future... Sad

I remember reading about the dragon having issues and finally breaking down back at the end of August. Matt & I didn't bother watching Fantasmic while we were out there last week. And not just because of the dragon, but because that whole area is a mess at night.

We were there last week. Our first visit to Disneyland. I wanted to supprise my wife and daughter with the dragon, but I got the supprise when it was a "no show". I didn't know it was broken.

We're set to do the dessert seating on Saturday…weather permitting. I wonder if they'll have done anything in the place of the big dragon. I'll miss her---she was a sight to behold!!!

I wonder if the decent sized earthquakes are partially responsible for the break of the dragon? Apparently they are to blame (or at least one of them) for one of the world of color platforms being unable to sink.

We did the dessert seating for Fantasmic! on Saturday evening and the dragon, as well as all other effects were in full working order!

The show was absolutely amazing! It is my favorite…and I'l thrilled to see it looking SO amazing! I can hardly wait to see it again in March!!
