Just heard this (great request, by the way), and got hit with a strong memory of the Image Works, where they had several lit panels on the counter top, one for each of the orchestra sections. As you raised your hands over the various sections, they would increase and volume and as you lowered your hands, they would decrease.
Anyone remember this? Anyone have a good photo? I really miss the good Image Works. I'm almost considering buying this: http://www.laughingplacestore.com/Product-9693.asp. Has anyone purchased one of these yet?
I believe this is still there. We were playing with it in January. Might not be exactly the same thing you are speaking of, but as you wave your arms, it is as if you are conducting the orchestra. _________________ [

I've seen the horrible imitation in the basement; I've done that. The noises weren't anything like what was upstairs, where a piece of the orchestra would increase its volume, like a real conductor, vs. playing a different instrument (downstairs one).
I really miss the one upstairs with the orchestra behind the display glass. As you increased the volume with your hands, visible notes could be seen coming out of the instruments, almost like the Pepper's Ghost illusion used in the Haunted Mansion for the ballroom.
I used to work there and Imageworks was sooooo boring. There was a secret doorway on the way to the floor that made sounds that led to the air conditioning room. Form there you could climb a ladder down to the turntable and sit on the other side of the Dream Finder's original scene. The roof during Illuminations was cool too. Back then there was a mirror on the roof for the lasers in Illuminations and we used to mess with it just for fun.

Glad you enjoyed it as much as me! I needed a little whimsy today. I used to love Imageworks and remember the orchestra well. I remember how cool we thought it was that you could "paint" on those touch screens that projected up onto a bigger screen. Now look - half of what we do with debit cards, etc., is on touch screens. It's funny how it was so revolutionary back then.
