My favorite special effect in Disneyland has always been and will always be the beginning special effects of the Haunted Mansion. They really can be entertaining and terrifying. As a three year old kid I was terrified of the whole ride. Now I love the unique way the effects are setup. _________________ Attention travelers, please remain seated. I guess it would be the firefly's in PotC/Blue Bayou. Just really cool. _________________ When you're curious, you find lots of interesting things to do.

I've always loved the THM effects. Funny thing is, as a child, THM never scared me, but the talking pirate skull in POTC before the drop always terrified me. Love both rides then & now. Can't wait to see what they do in the next refurbs myself!

I guess your first is always your best.
For me it was, as a young child, my first ride through Peter Pan, when the flying boats go over the miniature city lights.
I'm quite sure I could get on that ride now, some 35 years later, and be immediately transported back to that magical moment so long ago. _________________ - Jim -

Most all of the effects on Pirates; the swamp scene, the fire... just so amazing, especially considering this was done in only the 60's.
The effects in the Haunted Mansion are also very impressive. |

I'm with tach on the shadow playing the piano in haunted mansion attic.
I also liked the effect on the Indiana Jones ride after the snake, when you bounce down the stairs and get your first look at the lava room, , they used to have lava rocks come down in front of you when you turn to go into the skull area. (you can still hear the sound from it, but no visual effect). I thought that was an awesome effect & couldn't figure out what it was.
Though I've never seen this next effect in person, I saw it on a video:
The indiana jones ride in tokyo disneyland has a large idol spit a fireball directly at you. The effect looks awesome on video and though I haven't seen it in person, looks like it is possibly the best special effect to date! |
