All Disney hotels get green designation
Orlando Business Journal

Disney's Yacht and Beach Club Resort recently earned the state's Green Lodging designation.

All 23 hotels at Walt Disney World Resort and the company's Vero Beach resort have now been certified as meeting voluntary environmental guidelines.

The Florida Department of Environmental Protection established the Florida Green Lodging Program in 2004. Properties must meet environmental guidelines for hotels and motels to conserve natural resources and prevent pollution. To date, 165 hotel properties across Florida have earned the designation.

Gov. Charlie Crist signed an executive order in July requiring state agencies and departments to hold meetings and conferences only at hotels with Florida Green Lodging Program designation whenever possible.

Disney's BoardWalk Inn was the first hotel in Florida to receive the Green Lodging designation in 2004.

Disney properties installed EnergyStar rated appliances, energy efficient lighting and took other measures to reduce electricity demand. In addition, the resort also implemented a towel and linen reuse program and installed low-flow faucets to reduce water usage.

This is great news for Disney... it shows that the company is committed to "going green", along with the new movie green movie studio....

I hope all the resort cast members are as committed. I've stayed at the Boardwalk several times since 2004. They have a great program where the towels get changed only when you leave them on the floor & sheets get changed when you put a card on the bed. I'm not sure every cast member has the hang of it yet.

I've tried hanging the towels like they ask, but the house staff has always left new ones, except for a few times. I do think the staff needs training. I did notice the squiggly bulbs at All Star Sports in January, and was glad to see them. We use them at home.

Now I'd like to know what Disney does with all the plastic dumped in the trash. I know they recycle water to water plants. There is so much they could do. Glad to see some steps being taken.

WDW and Disneyland believe it or not SORT the garbage even that which si thrown into Trash cans...I was actually walking back stage many years ago at Disneyland and saw the "line" that this is done in.....Bottles are taken out of the trash and put into "to be recycled" containers.

WDW is a horse of a different color as they have pneumatic vacuums systems that run under the parks to collection bins where the trash is later dealt with by Reedy Creek. Not all parks have this MK has the best example of it...which runs along the ceilings of the Utilidors

ANIMAL KINGDOM had a policy of not serving Straws and Soft Drink lids....that way it would cut down on polution and potentials for them to fall near the animals who would otherwise ingest them. It's a win win cost cutting measure to be certain.

So is that why my daughters are doing that? And here I thought they just had bad backs.
