Kind of neat - I've played the trial of Tap Tap Revenge a while ago. Pretty cool Disney is really trying to branch out into app games a little more.
Go ahead and crank the volume on Stroke 9’s “Tap Tap Domination” while you read this, because it could be a big win for Disney and mobile-gaming fans alike.
According to multiple news sources on Thursday, the Walt Disney Co. bought Tapulous, maker of the hugely popular iPhone music game Tap Tap Revenge. Disney will initially focus on making games for Apple’s iPhone, iPad and other mobile platforms, said Steve Wadsworth, the president of Disney Interactive Media Group.
Wadsworth was quoted by The Associated Press as calling the purchase “a strategic move, and it highlights the importance we put on mobile.”
It also highlights the potential of being a big money-maker, too. Tapulous apps are played by 30 million users on Apple platforms. Games include Tap Tap Revenge, which features different musical acts, from Metallica to Lady Gaga and even a Disney talent familiar with legions of young Radio Disney fans – Justin Bieber.
Tapulous also is the creator of the Riddim Ribbon game app, too.
According to the AP, Tapulous Inc.’s staff will remain in Palo Alto, Calif., while Tapulous founder and CEO Bart Decrem and CIO Andrew Lacy will take over mobile-business roles at Disney.
